Dr. Joy Moore-Cruse

Dr. Joy Moore-Cruse is an academic affairs leader, mathematician, educator, engineer, scholar, wife, and bonus mom and grandmother. She has a BSE in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, a MS in Mathematical Sciences and a PhD in both mathematics and education from the University of Cincinnati. After 8 years experience as a research engineer in the photovoltaic industry, she entered higher education in 1995 and spent 10 years as the Academic Chair of the Mathematics Department as well as 3 years as the Associate Dean of Academic Services on the Clearwater campus at St. Petersburg College (SPC).

She has published articles on culturally relevant mathematics pedagogy and mathematics achievement among African American college students and she has made numerous national and international presentations regarding mathematics teacher preparation and mathematics achievement among undergraduate students. She has provided professional development in mathematics education for K-12 teachers both domestically and in Cape Town, South Africa, for over 14 years. She currently serves as the Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Pasco-Hernando State College.

Dr. Moore-Cruse has been FAASA-fied since 2013, faithfully supporting SPC students in State Board leadership for over 10 years. She was a virtual Lunch Pals Mentor at Osceola Fundamental High School and was engaged with numerous students in the Clearwater community as a mentor and tutor at Mt. Olive AME Church for five years. She currently sits on the Advisory Board for New Hope Project Launch Academy.

Dr. Moore-Cruse was licensed and ordained a minister in 1989 at Gospel Truth Church in Los Angeles, CA. She has served in domestic ministry as a preacher, assistant minister, choir director, worship leader, dancer, musician, teacher, Director of Christian Education, youth pastor, and advisory board member for over 35 years in Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvavnia, and New Jersey. Dr. Moore-Cruse’s international ministry and professional STEM education service includes 8 Caribbean countries, 5 African countries, and 3 European countries. She currently serves as an Associate Minister at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, leading Christian Education and engaged in the worship ministry and the stewardship ministry. She has been the blissfully newlywed wife of Bernard Cruse since November 2019.
